Elephant in Mud

A fresh mud bath is what this baby elephant was looking forward to as it closely followed its mother and aunts into a large watering hole in Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. A drought has made it harder to find holes large enough to bathe in, as well as for adequate drinking water for the herds. Muds baths help cool the elephants while also creating a coating on their skin to help keep insects from biting.
